What Is a Double Strap-On?
A double strap-on is a sex toy with two separate dildos used for double penetration or both partners’ stimulation. There is a wide range of double-headed strap-on sex toys. They are used by men and women, with or without a harness. When looking to get a little kinkier in bed, these are good introductory sex toys for many couples.
With the dildos’ heads, you can penetrate your partner or have one of the dildos stimulating your partner while the other is in you. These kinds of strap-ons are popular in straight, lesbian, or gay partnerships and come in different shapes, sizes, colors, and materials.
You also have a variety of features available to you and your partner.
There are anal dildos, vibrating functions, remote-controlled, and even multi-partner penetration types. “Strapless dildos” are even a form of double-headed dildos that women use – one end is inserted into her vagina while the other end is used to have sex with her partner.
Double strap-ons are designed to bring a wide variety of sexual experiences into the bedroom for maximum pleasure appeal.
Types of Double Strap-Ons
Vibrating Double Strap-Ons
Vibrating dildos have been known to not only increase pleasure but to help relax a partner – especially for anal play. When it comes to using vibrating double strap-ons, these are great for helping you and your partner get more comfortable with a newer sensation. Then, once you’re both comfortable, you can crank up the settings for higher pleasurable stimulation.
These can be remotely controlled or switched on. Vibrating double strap-ons typically have several modes to cycle through, and each type of double strap-on has its own special vibrating feature. For example, double-headed strap-ons will have two separate vibrators to stimulate the wearer and their partner. However, a double-penetration double strap-on will have a bullet vibrator that stimulates the g-spot of your partner.
Double-Headed Strap-Ons
Double-headed strap ons penetrate you and your partner at the same time. They may have an anal plug or a vaginal dildo for the wearer while the other head penetrates your partner. Double-headed strap-ons are also called “strapless” because they don’t always have an additional harness to keep them in place – the woman inserts one side into her vagina while using the other side to penetrate her partner.
There is a difference between a double-headed dildo and a double-headed strap-on. A double-headed dildo is used more often for mutual masturbation between women or simply a longer dildo with a head on each end. However, a double-headed strap-on or “strapless” strap-on is made for a woman to use as an artificial penis. The main difference here being it’s designed to stay in place for her to thrust into her partner, whereas a double-headed dildo may be more of a two-party effort.
Female Double Penetration Strap-Ons
Typically used for female-on-female sex, these double strap-ons penetrate both the vagina and anus of a woman. However, some versions are used by men. With hollowed dildos to insert your penis into, these are useful for men who have erectile dysfunction, ejaculate prematurely, or even for a denial kink.
A double strap-on for men to use is different from a simple strap-on for men. A double strap-on for female double penetration provides two or three dildos for female pleasure or a head for her and an anal toy for him.
Instead, a strap-on for men is like a cock ring toy with an additional dildo for double penetration.
Male Double Penetration Strap-Ons
Designed for both men and women to wear, these have two dildo heads that are inserted into a man’s anus (and can even be used for three-way sexual positions). These are used by more experienced sexual partners that are fully aware of their limits and kinks. They’re designed for gay couples to use. These are specially designed to provide stimulation to the prostate while also reaching further into the anal cavity.
How to Use a Double Strap-On
1. Slip Into It.
For double strap-ons that have a harness, you’ll just step into the straps like you would a pair of underwear. With adjustable features, like a belt or buckle, you’ll need to be sure the material is laying against your skin correctly. Otherwise, kinks and twists can cut into your skin midway through your sex session.
For double strap-ons that are double-headed, these occasionally don’t have an actual harness to strap into. Instead, they’re considered “strapless” and are typically made for women. One head will be inserted into your vagina, which is enough to secure it, while the other end is used to have sex with your partner. Simply lube both parts, and you’re good to go.
2. Adjust the Strap-On.
If your double strap-on has a harness, be sure to adjust the straps after you’re sure it’s comfortably in place. Give yourself a moment to adjust, especially if it’s a “strapless” version; move around and test out your motions before even beginning foreplay. This way, you’re used to how it feels before trying to whip it out.
Try simulating sex and test any additional settings, like vibrating features. You can even try using it on your partner without being hooked up to it to see how well it fits their pleasure. Make sure you and your partner are communicating the positives and negatives.
3. Add Lube.
For any sex toy that’s going inside you or your partner, you need to remember to add lube. If this is a silicone toy, remember to avoid using silicone-based lube as it will deteriorate the material. However, water-based and oil-based lubes work just as well for most couples and their toys.
Silicone-based lubes are the best when using latex condoms. Don’t forget: just because it’s a toy doesn’t mean it can’t transfer STIs. When adding lube to your condom or the toy, don’t worry about using too much. Having enough applied will reduce the friction and discomfort.
4. Insert.
After you’ve practiced and prepared, you’re ready to insert! Whether you’re used to having a penis-like attachment or this is your first time, be conscious of how it makes you and your partner feel. Give your partner a moment to adjust, get the green light, and then increase your pace as it feels comfortable for them.
If you and your partner are more experienced with double strap-ons or both heads are designed similarly, try testing out positions and movements that hit their sensitive nerves.
5. Remove.
When removing double strap-ons, treat it as if they’re you’re own sex toy. You and your partner will most likely be sensitive after coming, so it’s a good idea not to overstimulate those nerves too much. When removing from the anal cavity, take extra care to pull out slowly, applying additional lube where necessary.
If you have a double-headed strap-on that is also inserted into the wearer, but sure to remove the pieces one at a time. This may seem like a simple step, but some couples may think it’s an easy task to remove the wearer’s dildo while still penetrating their partner.
Clumsy at best and dangerous at worst, it’s easier for everyone if you simply remove the dildo from your partner and then pull out the wearer’s dildo separately. If you’d like to reinsert the dildo for your partner’s pleasure, add more lube and get back to business.
How to Clean a Double Strap-On
Washing the Straps
Straps come in various materials – cotton, spandex, nylon, and more! Once you’ve detached the dildo, add your straps to your delicate cycle, throwing them into a mesh bag for additional protection. This is especially helpful if there are extra strips that can get tangled in other clothes.
Be careful not to get them too hot – warm or cool water and tumble low dry is the best option. These could have elastic parts that will deteriorate or even melt in high heat.
You can also wash them by hand. Fill your sink basin with warm water, add a small amount of fabric detergent and work the soap into the harness with your fingers. Pay special attention to areas that may collect the most sweat, lube, or other bodily fluids.
Washing the Dildo
Use antibacterial soap and warm water or a specialized sex toy cleaner on dildos. Even if they’re detachable or if they’re a double-headed version, be careful to clean the double strap-on in its entirety. Taking care of your sex toys will keep them useful for longer and prevents the growth of harmful bacteria or STIs.
Drying Thoroughly
To reduce the risk of mold or material deterioration, be sure that your toys are dried entirely before storing them. For your dildos, you can pat them dry with a towel and leave them in a dry, warm place until you’re sure there’s no longer moisture. For the harness straps, after you’ve run them on a low heat tumble dry, you can put them away. If you don’t have a low heat setting on your dryer, you can hang them in a warm, dry place with a towel underneath to catch any drops of water.
Who Uses Double Strap-Ons?
Women
Women are more likely to use a double strap-on with their female partners, but double-headed and even anal penetration dildos may be used on their male partners looking to push their limits. There are more variations designed for women, specifically with “strapless” versions. Double strap-ons can also be useful for solo play for women – it’s not only great practice for when they want to use them on a partner, but it gives them a better understanding of how it feels for each person involved.
Men
Men with erectile dysfunction may use double strap-ons to give their partner pleasure both vaginally and anally with a hollow dildo. However, double strap-ons can be used for harder kinks for straight and gay couples looking to push their partner’s limits. There are even double-headed strap-ons for men: these have an anal dildo for them and an additional dildo to be used on their partner.
How Much Does a Double Strap-On Cost?
Because of the vast types and features you can choose from, double strap-ons can cost anywhere from $15 to over $60. This depends on their functionality, the materials used, and their size.
For example, a remote-controlled ‘strapless’ dildo can cost about $100 from one manufacturer. A double-headed strap-on harness for female double penetration can be $60 from a different manufacturer.
When looking to purchase a double strap-on, be sure to look over the product information carefully. If you’re shopping online, reputable manufacturers will have their product details listed out to be easily found. When shopping at your local sex shop, you can generally find those same details on the package or ask a knowledgeable employee for more information.
